Thursday morning New Mexico State Police (NMSP) released additional details regarding a fatal crash on U.S. Hwy 380, which resulted in the death of a 19-year-old man. At approximately 9:40 a.m. Wednesday, September 24, state police officers were dispatched to the scene of a two-vehicle crash near mile post 198, close to the border of Chaves and Lea Counties. Photographer Jerod Foster reported this is approximately 45 miles east of Roswell. The nearest town appears to be Caprock, NM.
In an email to the Daily Record, NMSP Officer Wilson Silver stated that a 2017 Ford passenger vehicle (model currently unknown) was headed eastbound on U.S. 380. For reasons not known, the Ford crossed over into the westbound lanes, causing a head-on collision with a Freightliner commercial truck.
