FARGO — A Galesburg, N.D., man who recently lost his wife has found a special way to pay it forward.
While his wife was in hospice, Jeff Voltz started to knit hats.
Now, hundreds of hats later, Voltz is gifting those hats to cancer and hospice patients all across the region.
After working on a farm and elevators his whole life, Voltz is no longer picking up a pitchfork or grain shovel. He is using balls of yarn to create hundreds of hats.
"You just take your hook and hook them over," Voltz said, explaining the process as he knits at Sanford Fargo Hospice.
"Oh, five to seven a week, I guess," he said of his hat production.
Voltz is dedicated to this craft because of his first and only love: his late wife Gerri.
