NEW YORK (PIX11) — The time has come, golf fans. The Ryder Cup begins Friday with some of the sport's biggest names ready to compete for bragging rights between the United States and Europe.
This is no traditional tournament, though. Fans both at Bethpage Black or watching elsewhere will have to adjust to a completely different format than The Masters, the PGA Championship or another traditional match.

What is match play?
The Ryder Cup is not an individual match like you may be accustomed to. It's a team game— 12 players from each squad compete in 2-on-2 matches for the first two days in two different formats, foursomes and four-balls.
