CAMDEN, Maine — The Town of Camden planned to launch a new paid parking system earlier this month to raise revenue and help lower property taxes—but the rollout faced unexpected hurdles.
"I just never imagined that someone would do that," Holly Anderson, the communication and outreach coordinator for the town of Camden, said.
Nearly all of Camden's new parking kiosks were hit with pink spray paint and spray foam insulation. Surveillance videos from multiple businesses show a person on foot wearing all black.
"To see this person go from kiosk to kiosk, to kiosk was a real shocker and a real bummer," Andreson said.
Town officials say 25 of the 31 parking kiosks were vandalized just 24 hours after they were installed.
