Tim Atkinson thought he might be keeping his hair this time.

The principal of St. Joseph Catholic Elementary School in Grimsby, who has had his head shaved many times for charity, promised his students and staff he would have his head and beard shaved if they hit a $10,000 target he proposed for the school’s annual Terry Fox walk Thursday.

“That’s huge for 202 students,” said Atkinson, adding he wanted to do something special as this year is the 45th anniversary of the walk.

The school walk raised $3,300 last year.

But during a Thursday morning assembly, Atkinson announced to cheering students gathered in the gymnasium they and the school community raised nearly $16,000 this year, with donations still coming in.
