LOGAN — Fire fighters are on the scene of a forest fire that is burning in Sardine Canyon, US-89/91. The Mitton Fire was discovered around 3 p.m. Wednesday.

According to Utah Fire Info, the fire is located near the summit of the canyon. It is unknown whether or not any structures have been threatened.

Logan City Police Dispatch said fire fighters have been getting containment of the fire through the afternoon.

According to emergency radio communication, fire fighters have turned responsibility of the fire over to federal officials.

The cause of the fire is unknown.

Logan City Dispatch said if motorists see smoke from the fire they don’t need to call 911. Fire fighters are already aware of the blaze and are getting it under control.
