TEMPLE, Texas — Family Promise of Bell County is set to open eight new transitional housing units in early October, doubling the number of homeless families it helps achieve self-sustainability.

The Promise Homes represent the second phase of Family Promise's master plan, developed five years ago when the organization was serving just a handful of families annually.

Today, they've increased their reach by almost 1,000%.

"We're about to open our second phase, which is 8 more units, our transitional homes for families experiencing homelessness called the Promise Homes," said Rucker Preston, the nonprofit's executive director.
