Former FBI Director James Comey has been indicted by a grand jury. The move caps a years-long effort by President Donald Trump to punish the former top federal law enforcement officer he fired in 2017 for investigating his 2016 campaign's contacts with Russia.
A federal grand jury handed up an indictment charging Comey with making false statements to Congress and obstructing Congress during testimony on Sept. 30, 2020. Specifically, the indictment alleges Comey testified that day that he hadn't “authorized someone else at the FBI to be an anonymous source in news reports" regarding an FBI investigation, when he knew that wasn't true.
