All 50 states took part in Save a Life Day, a nationwide effort to distribute free Narcan and teach people how to use it. In Louisville, dozens of locations offered on-the-spot training and kits, aiming to put lifesaving tools into more hands.
“I mean, without Narcan, there would be a lot of people that don't get the second chance to actually live recovery and see what it can do for you,” said Candace Durham, director of quality and compliance at Reclaim Recovery. “I'm also a person in long-term recovery. I've been clean and sober for ten years and... without options such as Narcan, people like me wouldn't be able to be out here and hand this out.”
Advocates stressed that everyone—not just people who use substances—should carry naloxone.
