The boxing world is again mourning the death of a fighter, following news Ghanaian boxer Ernest Akushey died 11 days after losing a fight.

Akushey, 32, was beaten by Jacob Dickson in eight rounds in the Ghanaian capital, Accra, on September 12.

Local reports claim Akushey complained of feeling unwell 10 days after the bout and his condition deteriorated rapidly leading to his passing on September 23.

In the fight against Dickson, Akushey took a lot of punishment and was knocked down late. He made the count but was seen stumbling around the ring, before Dickson began landing more blows as the referee stopped it.

Following the fighter's passing, WBC president Mauricio Sulaiman released a statement.
