Community leaders and advocates held a vigil Thursday night in Mount Oliver to call for an end to gun violence in the region following an officer-involved shooting in Aliquippa last week that resulted in the death of a teenager.
The event was hosted by the South Pittsburgh Coalition for Peace — a coalition of volunteers and agencies focused on mitigating violence — at the Lighthouse Cathedral, where gun locks were provided to attendees.
The vigil opened with prayer led by the Rev. John Welch, who called for peace and for protection for community violence prevention workers.
