LANSING — Gov. Gretchen Whitmer and Michigan legislative leaders announced Thursday, Sept. 25 they have reached a deal for a Fiscal Year 2026 budget, heading off a state government shutdown that would have begun Oct. 1.
In a joint news release, Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, House Speaker Matt Hall, R-Richland Township, and Senate Majority Leader Winnie Brinks, D-Grand Rapids, said they have reached an agreement to "lower Michiganders’ costs, reduce waste and increase government efficiency, and help Michiganders thrive."
Complete details were not immediately available, but the House and Senate were preparing to vote on the night of Sept. 25 on key elements of the budget plan.
