SPOKANE, Wash. — Families of murder victims gathered alongside Spokane County law enforcement, judges and attorneys Wednesday afternoon for a vigil marking the National Day of Remembrance.
The annual event gives surviving families space to honor loved ones whose lives were cut short by violence.
Among those attending was Terri Smith and her daughter, Jessica Shuck, who lost their son and brother, Justin Allen Daniel, in April 2024.
Daniels' ex-girlfriend is accused of killing him at his home in Mead. The two had a daughter together and were in the midst of a custody battle. A murder trial is set for next month, and Terri and Jessica are keeping the memory of Justin alive.
“He was the funny guy. He was the romantic of our family,” Smith said, recalling how Justin once arrived in a limo
