COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Ohio Department of Public Safety has launched a new tool aimed at making it easier for residents to report criminal activity.
The app, called Safeguard Ohio, is now live after two years of development and is the first of its kind in the nation to use artificial intelligence to assist with crime tips.
Accessible at safeguard.ohio.gov , the app allows users to submit tips, photos and videos anonymously or with their contact information. Tipsters can report a range of issues including terrorism, child exploitation, drug activity and school threats.
Andy Wilson, director of the Ohio Department of Public Safety, said the AI-backed system is designed to filter through submissions to separate credible tips from false reports.
