STORM LAKE, Iowa (KTIV) - There will also be an empty line on November’s ballot in Storm Lake. That’s because one long time city official has decided not to seek reelection.

When Storm Lake residents head to the polls in November, there will be no mayoral candidate on the ballot. With Mayor Mike Porsch stepping down after 8 years, and nobody filing to run, the city is now facing an election with an empty ballot at the top.

“Running for mayor was an opportunity to give back to a community that has been so good to me through my career,” explained Mayor Mike Porsch. “I am passionate about our community, and I wanted to see what I could do to help move our community forward.”
