AMARILLO, Texas (KAMR/KCIT) — Recent claims suggesting a possible link between acetaminophen, which goes by several brand names like Tylenol, use during pregnancy and autism are raising questions for parents after the Trump Administration announced it would begin notifying doctors that acetaminophen can increase the risk of autism.

According to local doctors, acetaminophen continues to be the safest option for managing pain and fever during a pregnancy.

"So, acetaminophen, by the American College of OB GYN, has been the choice if you need pain relief. It's certainly the choice over an ibuprofen or any of the NSAIDS," Texas Tech Physicians OB+GYN, Dr. Teresa Baker said." Obviously, we want to use some caution for any medicine that we choose to take when we're pregnant."
