A proposal to allow more than 700 homes to be built close to the Jandakot water mound has been been opposed by the City of Cockburn.

The WA Planning Commission wants to rezone 46.8ha of land at Lot 709 Armadale Road and Lot 20 Hebble Loop from “rural – water protection” to “urban deferred” to enable it to be developed with about 750 homes.

Banjup residents have come out against it and the Cockburn council has joined them, voting unanimously at its September 2 meeting to object to the proposal.

The city believes it does not meet the Perth and Peel@3.5million State planning frameworks, its Local Planning Strategy, and the Jandakot Groundwater Protection state planning policy.
