OLD SAYBROOK, Conn — The Old Saybrook Police Commission approved the appointment of a new police chief Thursday evening, according to the town's Democratic Town Committee, or OSDTC.

William "Billy" Onofrio received unanimous approval from the police commission, led by Democrat Alfred "Chub" Wilcox.

According to the OSDTC in a post on Facebook, Onofrio addressed the appointment at a meeting with police personnel, noting "the importance of service and family as the guiding stars in his work as a career law enforcement official."

"We are so proud of the work of the Police Commission, aided by our First Selectmen, Carl Fortuna and are thrilled to welcome Chief Onofrio along with his wife and two sons to the Old Saybrook community," the OSDTC said.
