CLEVELAND, Ohio — More of Northeast Ohio is experiencing “moderate drought” conditions, with “severe drought” beginning to creep into the western corner of the region, according to the latest update from the U.S. Drought Monitor.
The Sept. 23 update, released Thursday, expanded moderate drought conditions to cover all of Cuyahoga County and most of Geauga and Lake counties. Far northeast corners of Lake and Geauga counties, and much of Ashtabula County, remain only “abnormally dry.”
To the west, severe drought has emerged in northwest Lorain County, with the rest of the county under moderate conditions.
Recent rainfall brought some improvement farther south, with portions of Medina, Summit and Portage counties downgraded to abnormally dry conditions.
After 15 consecutive days without m
