Following his indictment by a federal grand jury on two criminal counts, former FBI Director James Comey has broken his silence on the matter, saying he is “innocent."
The indictment accuses James Comey of making a false statement and obstructing justice related to his 2020 testimony before the Senate Judiciary Committee.
In a video posted to Instagram, Comey said, “My heart is broken for the Department of Justice. I have great confidence in the federal judicial system and I am innocent, so let’s have a trial, and keep the faith."
Comey, in the video, also mentioned longstanding political tensions, specifically citing President Donald Trump, whose public call for prosecutions against Comey and other political opponents came just days before the indictment was issued.
