NEW HAVEN, Conn. — Approximately 2,000 people marched in New Haven on Thursday, imploring Yale University to pay its workers better wages and make more contributions to the city.
According to the union UNITE HERE Local 34 Federation of University Employees, the march began at the New Haven Green and ended at the Yale School of Medicine on Cedar Street.
Those who marched included members of UNITE HERE Locals 33, 34 and 35; New Haven Rising; and their community allies. They represented New Haven residents who are struggling due to the post-pandemic cost of living crisis.
The union reports that Yale is currently in contract negotiations with UNITE HERE Locals 34 and 35. Those who participated in the rally called on Yale to settle good contracts and give more to the city after its current
