JAMESTOWN, N.Y. — A Jamestown man is in custody after police say he stole a woman’s bag at knifepoint and damaged her phone during a robbery on the city's north side on Thursday evening.
Jamestown Police officers responded to a robbery complaint around 5:30 p.m. Thursday. The victim told police that her bag was forcibly stolen by a man who was later identified as 25-year-old William R. Gardner.
Gardner brandished a small machete during the robbery and swung it toward the victim before fleeing on foot, police said. Investigators also determined that the victim's phone was intentionally damaged during the incident.
Officers later found Gardner at his home, where he was taken into custody without incident. He was transported to Jamestown City Jail and is being held pending arraignment.
