Ionce had a dog named Charley. Charley had no pedigree. He was just a dog dog. Charley resembled a half-grown German Shepherd, but Charley was no German Shepherd. In fact, Charley was a bully. He liked to bully a half-grown smaller dog who lived next door. When I would sit in the swing on our front porch, Charley would sit with me. If the neighbor dog was not in his front yard, Charley would sit calmly beside me, the way a dog dog is supposed to sit. But as soon as the neighbor dog appeared, Charley would take off to trespass on my neighbor’s property and quarrel with the pup. A whole lot of growls passed between them, but Charley’s growls sounded louder.
