1/2 Volunteers and Powles Staton employees and families serve local veterans at a veteran appreciation luncheon.

ROCKWELL — For 10 years, the Powles Staton Funeral Home has been holding veteran appreciation luncheons, offering the local veteran community an opportunity to sit back and enjoy a free lunch with no expectations.

Of course, Thursday’s rendition was not the annual Veterans Appreciation Lunch, which is held in the days surrounding Veterans Day. This was only one of the multiple luncheons that Powles Staton hosts throughout the year.

Funeral director Russ Roakes said that he only needed to look around at the fellowship the veterans were displaying to feel inspired to keep the event going.
