The Income Tax department on Thursday extended the deadline for submission of audit reports for FY25 by one month till October 31. In a statement, the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) said the income tax return filing portal is working smoothly and more than 7.57 crore ITRs have been filed till September 23, 2025.

The decision came after several professional associations, AGFTC and the Income Tax Bar Association (ITBA), had written to Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman highlighting the hardship faced by professionals.
