A proposal to add a 2% tax on real estate transfer fees was one of the ongoing matters that Sandwich representative to the Barnstable County Assembly of Delegates James J. Killion spoke on during the Select Board meeting held on September 18.
“Members of the county staff have been discussing a proposal to impose a transfer tax on real estate in Barnstable County, the funds of which will be used to address housing needs within the county,” Killion said.
Killion said that, unfortunately, there is currently little detail regarding the proposal due to it being “on the fast track” for the last six weeks or so, with plans to vote on the matter in November.
