INDIANAPOLIS — Indianapolis officials say downtown is thriving thanks to tourism, new development and cultural momentum, but acknowledge there is still work to do.

City and business leaders gathered Thursday at the Crane Bay Event Center for the annual State of Downtown event. The Downtown Indy Alliance, recently rebranded, released findings showing record-breaking tourism, $4 billion in planned development projects and improved perceptions of cleanliness among visitors and residents.

“We have turned our city center into a prime destination for people from all over the world,” Indianapolis Mayor Joe Hogsett said to the crowd.

Taylor Schaffer, president and CEO of Downtown Indy Alliance, said the city must build on its momentum by focusing on core issues.
