Floodwater released from Hirakud Dam in Sambalpur has now reached Mundali, significantly increasing the water discharge in the Mahanadi system. By 8 am on Friday, 5,54,695 cusecs of floodwater was flowing through Mundali, with officials confirming that 20 gates of the Hirakud dam remain open due to heavy rainfall in the upper catchment areas.
The flow is expected to rise further, touching 6.5 lakh cusecs at Mundali by tonight.
The heavy discharge is set to raise water levels in the tributaries of the Mahanadi, prompting authorities to advise people living in low-lying areas to remain on high alert.
