Chicago White Sox pitcher Tyler Gilbert was inspected by MLB umpires while pitching against the New York Yankees. The MLB crew was suspicious of Gilbert using a foreign substance and was forced to pause the game to have their routine check. It’s common for umpires to check pitchers in case of suspicion. Several pitchers were ejected previously for using a foreign substance.

The incident occurred at the bottom of the fifth inning when Gilbert stepped up as a relief pitcher. The White Sox were leading with the Yankees trailing 3-1, and Gilbert was given a new glove after umpires had completed their checks.
