The excitement surrounding the Penticton Vees’ first-ever home game in the Western Hockey League was on full display Wednesday, as more than 1,000 fans packed Gyro Park for the team’s official WHL Launch Party.

After decades of dominance in the British Columbia Hockey League, Vees owner Graham Fraser and his family announced earlier this year that the franchise had been accepted as a WHL expansion team. Head coach, GM, and team president Fred Harbinson -- who led the Vees to six BCHL league titles over 18 seasons -- remains at the helm as they enter this new chapter.

The Vees split their opening WHL road trip, dropping a 5-0 decision to Victoria before bouncing back with a 5-1 win over the Vancouver Giants -- marking the first WHL victory in franchise history.
