Authorities in Hawaii are searching for a 44-year-old diver who went missing near Kauai. Bryson Higashi was last seen on Tuesday afternoon in the waters around Hanalei Bay. The U.S. Coast Guard received a report about a possible person in the water at 7:36 p.m. on Wednesday from the Kauai Fire Department.

Higashi was last spotted at approximately 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. In response to the report, the Coast Guard issued an urgent marine information broadcast. They coordinated the deployment of several search teams, including a 45-foot Response Boat-Medium crew from Coast Guard Station Kauai, an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew, and an HC-130 Hercules airplane crew from Coast Guard Air Station Barbers Point. The Coast Guard Cutter William Hart also joined the search efforts.

Higashi is described as 5 feet, 11 inches tall and weighing around 180 pounds. His vehicle was found unattended near Hanalei Bay, raising concerns about his safety. A multiagency search operation is currently underway, involving personnel from the Coast Guard, Kauai Police and Fire Departments, and Hawaii’s Department of Land and Natural Resources.

The search is being conducted under challenging weather conditions, with winds at 15 mph and seas ranging from 2 to 4 feet, along with occasional showers and reduced visibility. Authorities are urging anyone with information that could aid in the search to contact the Coast Guard.
