Music Director Jader Bignamini raises the baton this weekend to launch the Detroit Symphony Orchestra’s 2025-26 Classical Series.
The orchestra will be joined at 7 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 27 by Peruvian tenor Juan Diego Florez for a program of arias and songs, while a black-tie pre-concert gala and afterparty will honor retired prima ballerina Joanne Danto, a metro area philanthropist and longtime DSO supporter.
The events take place at Orchestra Hall, 3711 Woodward Ave., Detroit.
The Classical Series then gets into full swing Oct. 9-11, with pianist Helene Grimaud playing Gershwin’s Piano Concerto in F, alongside other pieces. In all, there will be 20 Classical Series programs this season, including the February world premiere of Composer-in-Residence Michael Abels’ new orchestral suite “
