Keir Starmer has announced mandatory digital ID cards in a bid to crack down on illegal immigration .
The Prime Minister said nobody will be able to work in the UK unless they possess the free card.
But a UK Government source said the new plan would not be called “ Brit Card” .
Tackling illegal immigration is a top priority for the Labour Government, but Starmer has so far failed to stop the boats.
In a speech in London, he said digital ID would be a requirement for everyone across the UK by the end of the parliament:
"You will not be able to work in the United Kingdom if you do not have digital ID. It's as simple as that."
