SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WTVO) — Darren Bailey has announced his second candidacy for governor of Illinois, launching his campaign in Southern Illinois with his running mate, Cook County GOP Chair Aaron Del Mar.

Bailey, a Republican, aims to unseat Governor J.B. Pritzker, who is seeking a third term after announcing his candidacy in June. Bailey's campaign will focus on business, public safety, and education, as he seeks to reclaim the Republican nomination.

Bailey criticized Pritzker, claiming that his policies have negatively impacted the state.

Bailey previously won the 2022 Republican primary but lost to Pritzker by a dozen points. Despite this setback, Bailey is determined to challenge Pritzker again, emphasizing issues he believes are critical to Illinois residents.
