LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) - Governor Andy Beshear signed two emergency regulations Thursday for the Department of Juvenile Justice to address isolation policies and mental health for juveniles.
The regulations are the latest efforts by the Beshear Administration to correct the DJJ’s troubled history.
Since 2022, the WAVE Troubleshooters have reported whistleblowers’ concerns about facilities in Lyndon, Adair County, and Campbell County, including claims of riots, sexual assaults, and use of excessive force.
In January of 2024, State Auditor Ball released a performance review of the DJJ. The 231-page document’s findings across the state’s eight regional facilities were consistent with those complaints, prompting demands that the state take action.
