New York state started mailing inflation refund checks to millions of people on Friday.

More than 8 million New Yorkers will get a check, which range in value from $150 to $400. Checks will be mailed over several weeks.

The state Department of Taxation and Finance said it can’t provide exact delivery dates.

The state Legislature included the checks in the budget earlier this year after Gov. Kathy Hochul proposed them. She pitched the checks as a way to help New Yorkers deal with rising prices.

“Starting today, we’re sending inflation refund checks to over 8 million New Yorkers because it’s simple — this is your money and we’re putting it back in your pockets,” Hochul said, according to News 12 Long Island .
