MANITOWOC, Wis. (WBAY) - Republican gubernatorial candidate Bill Berrien has canceled his planned appearance at a GOP picnic in Manitowoc on Thursday night.

Berrien was supposed to be the keynote speaker at a Manitowoc County GOP event taking place at Lincoln Park

However, a few minutes before 6 p.m. on Thursday, organizers placed a call to his campaign and were told Berrien would not be showing up, and decided to cancel after what they described as a very rough week.

The county chair then made the announcement to the crowd inside the shelter, and some people applauded.

It comes after a report by a Milwaukee newspaper that revealed he used a social media account to follow a transgender porn star and “like” sexually explicit articles.
