Get your rakes, bags and blowers ready. The City of Richmond will start collecting leaves on Monday, Oct. 6.

In a news release Thursday, the Department of Public Works said the annual leaf collection program is "vital to the health of the city's right of way and stormwater infrastructure."

Residents have several options when it comes to dealing with leaves:

• On normal trash days, up to 6 bags of leaves (biodegradable bags are preferred) can be placed near supercans.

• There will be unlimited bag collection during established time periods in November and December. The collection days depend on which of the four sectors you live in. Visit www.rva.gov/public-works/leaf-collection for a map of the sectors and days.
