After Tuesday’s practice, young Penguins goalie Joel Blomqvist said, naturally, that his main goal for this new season was to establish himself as an NHL regular.
First, though, Blomqvist said he had to get through the season healthy.
So much for that.
Less than 24 hours later, Blomqvist suffered a lower-body injury early in a practice in Cranberry. He exited the ice and the Penguins announced he was out day to day.
On Friday came the update that he will actually be out for at least the next month.
Needless to say, Blomqvist’s injury kills his chances of making the NHL club out of training camp, where he was part of an “open competition” at the goalie position.
Instead, Blomqvist will spend at least the next month recovering and rehabbing as some combination of Tristan Jarry, Arturs
