The Legault government is backing down on its ban on the sale of new gasoline vehicles starting in 2035.
Environment Minister Bernard Drainville is reversing the decision of his predecessor, Benoit Charette.
This regulation aimed to limit the sale of 100 per cent electric vehicles by 2035 in order to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in Quebec.
The government is now setting the target at 90 per cent electric vehicle sales, but also including plug-in hybrid vehicles.
For several months, Quebec Conservative leader Éric Duhaime has been campaigning against this ban.
