The roof installation is at least 70% complete and the concrete floors are half finished for the new Allen County Jail, according to an update that will be shared today.

Allen County officials are scheduled to provide updates at the construction site, 2911 Meyer Road, during the lunch hour.

Weigand Construction was contracted to build the jail, expected to cost about $300 million, to relieve overcrowding and other concerns tied to the current downtown facility.

County officials chose to build a new jail in response to a judge's demand that they find a way to address safety and other issues outlined in a former inmate's 2020 lawsuit.
