The original Moon Shoe dates back to 1972, when Nike co-founder Bill Bowerman poured liquid rubber into his wife’s waffle iron in search of a lightweight, grippy sole for track athletes. The shoe left crater-like footprints on the ground hence the name and while only a handful were made, its DNA helped shape Nike’s future icons like the Waffle Trainer.
