The Chatham County Sheriff's Office (CCSO) rescued a 15-year-old girl from sex trafficking on Wednesday night just one day after it announced its new Human Trafficking Unit.

Around 10:30 p.m. officers found the girl inside a motel room near Interstate 95. Chief Deputy McArthur Holmes said she is currently recieving assistance.

The rescue came after CCSO received a tip at around 9 p.m. from the Oklahoma State Police about a run-away juvenile and an adult male suspect that may be in Savannah.

The suspect was not with the girl when police arrived, and no arrests have been made at this time.

Holmes said this rescue should show the community that, "we are doing our job. It means that we care."

This is a developing story.
