Livingston Parish residents will soon see their flood insurance premiums drop by 15% after the parish successfully improved its federal flood rating.

Beginning in April Livingston residents will get a discount that will come to more than $1 million annually, said Parish President Randy Delatte.

After working at it for years, the parish announced in late August it achieved a FEMA Community Rating System (CRS) of Class 7.

The CRS is a voluntary FEMA program that recognizes and encourages community floodplain management practices such as local mitigation and floodplain management. A lower CRS class rating means a higher discount on flood insurance for a parish.
