Southern (1-3) hasn’t beaten Jackson State (2-1) since 2020, losing the last six straight matchups.

In the skid, Jackson State has won by an average of 19.5 points and in the teams' last meeting in the Southwestern Athletic Conference championship game, the Jaguars fell 41-13.

Those past results haven’t been top of mind for Southern as it prepares to face its rival at 6 p.m. Saturday at A.W. Mumford Stadium.

“We’re in the here and now,” coach Terrence Graves said. “We're focusing on this game, because we can't do anything about the championship game. That game’s been played ... So all we can do now is we gotta live in the precious present.”
