Richard Hammond has publicly addressed his divorce from wife Mindy, confirming their separation after 23 years of marriage. The former Top Gear presenter, aged 55, reflected on a challenging year that included both the end of his marriage and the conclusion of his latest television show.

In an interview with the Daily Mail, Hammond drew parallels between the breakdown of his marriage and his near-fatal car crash in 2006, which left him in a two-week coma and with brain injuries. He stated, "Whatever happens to us, we can decide. Maybe not in the moment. I didn’t decide, as the car was going over at 320mph 'I’m going to make this a good thing', but there came a moment when I thought, 'right, my reaction to this is going to be positive.'"

Hammond's comments come eight months after he and Mindy announced their split through a joint statement. They expressed gratitude for their time together, stating, "Our marriage is coming to an end, but we’ve had an amazing 28 years together and two incredible daughters... We will always be in each other’s lives and are proud of the family we created."

In his new series, Richard Hammond's Workshop, he addresses his recent life changes directly. He mentions a "slight change in my circumstances" that has led him to move to a new location. "I like it. It’s got amazing views," he remarked, adding that it provides space for his cars and bikes and is closer to his workshop.

Hammond concluded by acknowledging the difficulties he has faced, stating, "It’s been a tough few years, but it’s not all bad," as he seeks to find a positive outlook amidst the changes.
