More government funding could cut Lambton County borrowing to pay for a 50-unit affordable housing apartment building going up on Kathleen Avenue in Sarnia, a county report says.
Lambton initially planned to borrow $7.2 million toward the $16.5-million project, but that may drop to $2.2 million because more senior government funding has been “conditionally allocated,” the report said.

“Staff are working to fulfil funding conditions and sign agreements,” it said. “Funding has not been publicly announced by the respective government agencies, so further details cannot be reported at this time.”
The new funding could boost total grants for the project from $4.8 million to $10.2 million, it said.
