ALLEN PARK -- Jake Bates had himself an eventful night against the Baltimore Ravens.
The Detroit Lions kicker missed his chance to set an NFL record for the longest made field goal from 67 yards out. Bates also made a touchdown-saving tackle on a kickoff return, much to the delight of his coaches and teammates.
Bates missed the 67-yard field-goal attempt heading into halftime during the team’s 38-30 win over the Ravens on Monday Night Football. The Lions were impressed enough with his effort that they’re hopeful to give him another lengthy shot like that.
Dan Campbell said Bates has made kicks from longer than 67 yards in practice before, too.
“Look, I appreciated the fact that he gave it a go,” the Lions coach said. “I thought he gave it a fair shot. He went up there, and it was a lit
