Darren Markland was one of the founders of Coffee Outside, a regular meetup at Constable Ezio Farone Park, just north of the High Level Bridge in Downtown Edmonton.

Markland made no secret that caffeine was his poison of choice, and having coffee in the park allowed him to catch up with his fellow cyclists, and friends and those who just happened to come by.

Markland, who died last weekend as the result of a cycling accident near Nordegg, had previously said he never wanted a formal funeral. So, instead of a formal gathering, about 200 family and friends got together at the park Friday to hold the largest Coffee Outside gathering to date.
