Police issued 30 tickets and executed a warrant at a street racing meetup in west Edmonton last weekend where roughly 100 vehicles congregated in the area.

On Sunday night, police became aware of vehicles gathering in the area of 129 Avenue and 170 Street for the purposes of street racing, said police in a Friday news release.

Officers set up check stops and intercepted each vehicle, ticketing drivers in the process. Police say, of the 30 tickets issued, many were for vehicle equipment violations and stunting. One warrant was executed during the operation.

“In a year where traffic fatalities are set to eclipse the last two years, and extreme speeding and street racing are an ongoing problem on our streets, this behaviour is unacceptable,” said Const. Peter Lafleur, with EPS northwest br
